

Role Reversal: Quakes to Clean Up Lions’ Mess?
By: David | February 2nd, 2009Is a seismic shift under way in Bay Area soccer community? Uh, no, probably not. But for at least one week, it appeared that gender role reversals were underway in the South Bay.
It’s been known for sometime that the FC Gold Pride would play at Buck Shaw Stadium, sharing time with the MLS San Jose Earthquakes and the Santa Clara University mens and womens soccer programs.
Bad enough that the Quakes have to share their fancy new stadium upgrades with the women, but earlier this month the boys got a jersey sponsorship from Amway. Yes, Amway, a name synonymous with household cleaning products.
The Quakes have expressed reluctance to share their fancy multimedia toys (like the big screen scoreboard and accompanying video cameras) with others, unless FCGP ponies-up major bucks to hire Quakes staff to operate them. So, it’s not clear if FCGP gamedays will feature video replays.
No word on whether the boys will share their cleaning products with the FCGP custodial staff. And it might cost them a $1 Million or so, but …
